Viking Lake State Park

2780 Viking Lake Road

Viking Lake is one of the most popular state parks in southwest Iowa due to its accessibility and variety of recreational opportunities. A large portion of the 1,000-acre park has been left in its natural state and has an abundance of wild flowers, plants and wildlife. It is not uncommon to see beavers, turkeys, muskrats, ducks, shore birds and white-tailed deer. Many of the park's hills and valleys were once campsites of Native American tribes and artifacts were uncovered when the dam was being constructed.

very nice getaway, lot of camping sites many camper locations with power hook up and there is a area for only tents. there is a beach here just one beach with water starting at 0 depth, safe for kids. there are several jetty's to stand from and fish for fishes but water start kind of deep from jetty area. there is trails to walk on, bunch of park grills to use. the restaurant is closed down, out of business.

Great campground and we love the swim beach. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they no longer do boat rentals and the restaurant is closed down.

There are some excellent trails around the lake for walk or biking. The kids loved the beach and the playground.
