That lovable scalawag Professor Harold Hill thought there was lots and lots of trouble in River City. Might have been true in 1912. But now the music and fun is back with a bang at "The Music Man Square" in Mason City, Iowa.

Mason City's rich musical heritage inspired Meredith Willson to use his hometown as the setting for one of America's favorite musicals, The Music Man. So it seemed only natural to celebrate the life and music of Meredith Willson by developing this multi-million dollar complex adjoining his boyhood home, not only to honor him but to sustain the spirit of "River City, Iowa."

Very nice atmosphere for a wedding but actual wedding area was somewhat small. Loved the ice cream parlor

A friend and I were there 9 years ago, and had fun. Figured we would go back, only to find out they were closed on Sundays as this was our Sunday plans before heading back home. So anyone looking at the hours on google and plans to go on Sunday. Hours are wrong and website is off line. They are closed on Sunday. Tried to go on June 10th to find out they are only open Tues-Sat. Person I went with on website 1 or 2 days before we left it said open Sunday. So website was up before we left. If we knew that ahead of time we would have flip flop our plans that weekend. We wasted time around town for it to open at 1:00 to find out they were closed. They do have a facebook page I found it later. Not everyone has facebook or thinks to look at facebook.

NOTE: parking is across the street in the municipal lot, which is free. We were looking to stretch our legs and since we’re fans of the Music Man movie, we decided to stop off here. Honestly we were blown away. This place is Disney level quality. The inside is designed just like River City, complete with pool hall and gazebo, and the museum is full of amazing items like instruments and costumes used in the movie. There’s an informative video that talks about the making of the movie as well as an opportunity to look through Wilson’s historic home. Overall this place is incredible and the town should be VERY proud to have this in their backyard. The tour guides are also so lovely and friendly... I wanted to give ours a hug but thought that might be weird.
