This place is free. The bison are far away. You have to get pretty lucky to see them close to a fence. However, what they have done is create an authentic prairie. The sights and sounds are wonderful. Staff is great.

Greeter was rude to my handicapped grandson and me. Rude when we entered. Then I was trying g to use the telescope with my grandson and while I was taking my glasses off he walked in front of me and took the telescope. At the end of visit they closed the gift shop in front of us at 3:50 and I planned on spending a significant amount if money there. In asking about auto tour he pulled the map from my hand in a rude manner. I'm sure he's a volunteer but my grandson and I were extremely disappointed in being treated this way. The location and facility was wonderful. It is the staff that I take extreme exception to.

It's so wierd seeing Iowa without corn or beans. There are points along the road in where all you can see are prairie grasses. The bison were not within sight of the road in the day we went but you could see them from the visitor center with the telescope. I hope they keep buying land and expending on this as I think it's important to know where we came from and what this place looked like before we got here.

A great place to spend a couple hours! Lots of things for kids to explore, interactive displays, theater in the visitor center/museum. There are several ways to view the bison and elk and a covered shelter available for lunch. The walking trails were well maintained and we plan on going back to see the butterfly garden in bloom!

I like taking the family out here. it is a little bit of a jaunt, but nice to be away from the city. there are plenty of hiking trails. The visitors center has some cool features. Since there is only one road in the bison preserve, it is hit or miss if you will actually see any. I have been out here and not seen the bison just as many times as I have.
